Launch of Ariane 5 with SES-14 & Al-Yah 3 Ends in Anomaly

Arianespace have launched their first rocket of 2018, an Ariane 5 ECA carrying the SES-14 and Al-Yah 3 communication satellites. SES-14 also contains the NASA GOLD experiment which will investigate the dynamic intermingling of space and Earth’s uppermost atmosphere. Liftoff took place at 22:20 UTC, January 25th 2018.

Shortly after second stage ignition, contact was lost with the rocket. Arianespace are investigation this launch anomaly. Information so far implies a deviation from the planned launch track resulting in both satellites being placed into a different orbit, Both satellites are expected to recover to their intended orbital location by using fuel reserves onboard.
