Launch of GLONASS M17, M18 & M19 Spacecraft

A Proton-M rocket blasted off from Baikonur today at 12:51 UTC carrying three GLONASS Spacecraft, GLONASS-M 17, M 18 and M 19. GLONASS is a radio-based satellite navigation system operated for the Russian government by the Russian Space Forces. It both complements and provides an alternative to the United States’ Global Positioning System (GPS), the Chinese Compass navigation system and the planned Galileo positioning system of the European Union.
