Launch of SpaceX Falcon 9 with New Fairing 2.0 on Spanish PAZ Mission

SpaceX have successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base today at 14:17 UTC, February 22nd 2018. The rocket carried the Spanish PAZ radar imaging satellite which will provide data for the Spanish Ministry of Defence. This rocket consists of a re-used first stage and a brand new fairing called the 2.0 fairing. The new fairing is slightly larger and lighter and will support potential recovery later down the line to support future re-use of the fairing, which costs around $6m for each new fairing.

The first stage is fitted with grid fins for a potential landing experiment, however with no legs the rocket will be discarded at sea. This first stage is an older model and has no use for future missions.
