NASA and U.S. NAVY Conduct Orion Spacecraft Ocean Recovery Tests

At Naval Station Norfolk near NASA’s Langley Research Center in Virginia, NASA and the U.S. Navy conduct a stationary recovery test (SRT) of an Orion test article on Aug. 13. Conducted in a controlled environment, this SRT allowed the teams to demonstrate and evaluate the recovery processes, procedures, hardware and personnel for recovering an Orion crew module and forward bay cover on its return from a deep space mission. A second SRT will be conducted in open waters next year.
